Details of Migrant workers involved in the Wayanad disaster should be disclosed
As we know Waynad landslide is one of the largest disaster occurred in Kerala .The Manav Migrant Welfare Foundation is a registered NGO working since 2017 for the well being of migrant labourers in Kerala. We initiated lots of activities for enhancing the community of migrant labourers. We work in association with Local bodies, NGO’s and other service providers in the community.
We also volunteered at Waynad disaster and it is noticed that many workers from other state along with families are suspected to be involved in this natural calamity. The migrant people were worked mainly in the tea plantation of Harrison Malayalam Limited and in the coffee and cardamom plantations of Amsili Matat in Mundakai and Chural Mala region where the tragedy happened. There was not any official declaration from Government, regarding the number of migrant workers and their family members who were absconded in this natural calamity.
It is a serious mistake that the authorities and the company management have not disclosed anything about the migrants even after so many days . There are two camps were opened only for migrants and it indicate that there are number of employees worked in this region. There are more than 500 survivors in landslide were sheltered in Kalpetta and Meppadi Ripon camp. The absconding of the four migrants from Bihar was getting noticed during the search of their relatives. Many migrant people have been victimized in this landslide at Wayanadu. They are also worth considering is very important.
The Government authorities and other agencies have not any data regarding the migrant workers and families. The migrant people may work under one or more agents. The statement demanded that the government urgently has to do necessary intervenion in absconding of migrant workers in the landslide take place at Wayanadu District in Kerala . The executive session of Manav Migrant Welfre Foundation was presided by NM Abdurrahman, Vice-Chairman Mohammad Umar, Secretary Abdulnasser and Coordinators Soumya N.B and Sadiq Ali were present.
